About Walnut Farm Montessori School 

Founded in 1991, Walnut Farm Montessori School is a nonprofit Montessori school serving children ages 18 months to sixth grade. As Arkansas’s only American Montessori Society (AMS) accredited school, Walnut Farm delivers a full Montessori curriculum enriched by outdoor education, the arts, and global awareness.

The nationally accredited Walnut Farm Montessori School offers children a Montessori education honoring individuality, authenticity, and the natural world. We promote peace and equity, empowering and inspiring all for life-long learning. 

 

Role of a Trustee 

Trustees at Walnut Farm are pioneers, thought leaders, and experts who guide the school’s strategic vision and ensure its long-term success. 

 

As a Trustee, you will 

  • Shape precedent as part of the only accredited Montessori school in Arkansas—your decisions set the standard for others to follow. 
  • Provide strategic and fiduciary oversight of the school’s mission, finances, and governance. 
  • Participate in five board meetings annually, monthly committee meetings, and periodic special projects. 
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of professionals dedicated to equity, education, and community impact. 
  • Contribute your expertise while learning from leaders in education, business, law, finance, and philanthropy. 

 

Desired Skills and Background

We welcome applicants from all industries and backgrounds, particularly those with expertise in: 

  • Finance, accounting, and budgetary oversight 
  • Education and child development (Montessori background NOT required) 
  • Nonprofit development, fundraising 
  • Marketing, communications 
  • LEGRC (legal, ethics, governance, risk, compliance) 
  • Human resources, business operations, project management 
  • Stakeholder engagement, Consensus building, community leadership 

Prior nonprofit board experience is a plus, but not required.

  2. One-to-two page cover letter describing why you’d like to join the board and how your experience aligns with Walnut Farm’s mission. 

Qualified candidates will be invited for an introductory conversation with the Governance Committee Chair to discuss next steps.
