Natural Areas

In addition to our outdoor classrooms, our six-acre campus includes two nature immersed playgrounds, nature trails, and natural areas to observe and appreciate nature. We believe that there is rarely inappropriate weather; instead, inappropriately dressed people. When light rain occurs, students and teachers put on their rain boots and rain coats and go out and enjoy nature!

We are proud to have one of the first natural playgrounds in the state of Arkansas. Our natural playground is a unique outdoor area offering a beautiful canopy of trees. It is designed to engage students in creative play and exploration. This large, natural environment gives students the freedom to run, dig, explore, and observe. Strategically designed, this area offers a variety of activities: slides, a climbing wall, a large sand pit, a deck, a rock creek bed, and a child-size amphitheater. At WFMS, our students enjoy the outdoors daily.

“This seems clear enough: When truly present in nature, we do use all our senses at the same time, which is the optimum state of learning.” –Richard Louv
